The Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles dropped their two games this past weekend in Lewiston, Maine against the #1 seeded L/A Nordiques out of the Coastal Division.
“It was a weekend to forget, unfortunately. As a team we got away from what makes us great. We need to be a lot better and need to have a short memory for this upcoming weekend,” Head Coach Trevor Simonson was quoted saying.
The Jr. Soaring Eagles Front Office have made quite a few moves to the roster for this upcoming weekend in hopes to change the recent direction of the team.
“There’s no way we should be losing as big as we did this past weekend,” General Manager Ray Welsh was quoted saying. “The boys will need to dig deep in 2 must-win games this upcoming weekend. We have what it takes, we just need to perform.”
The Jr. Soaring Eagles lead the Northeast Division by 1 point over each the 2nd place Danbury Colonials and 3rd place Skylands Kings, respectively. The squad will face off against both of them this weekend, on the road. Friday night at 8:30pm in Stockholm, NJ against the Kings and Saturday at 1:30pm in Danbury, CT against the Colonials.
“This weekend will test who we really are. The new players will be asked to step in right away to make an impact. It’s nothing less than huge early playoff games this weekend, in my opinion. There’s a lot on the line. It’ll be up to the boys on how badly they want it,” Director of Hockey Operations, Anthony Langevin, was quoted saying.
In addition, on Saturday in Danbury is the NAPHL Showcase as well as the NAHL Showcase. The Jr. Soaring Eagles will be facing off against the Colonials and right after, the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Knights will be taking on the Maine Nordiques. Both NAHL teams will be heavily watching the Jr. Soaring Eagles on players to recruit or bring up to the Tier II level, immediately.
